A Cautionary Tale

We went away to church camp at Mt. Hutt Retreat this weekend. What follows contains an important safety message… - Bike helmets are very important when performing large jumps…

Luckily the only serious injury was a break in the tip of my little finger. The rest was only minor scrapes and bruises and a few sore muscles in my shoulders. No concussion either, as far as I can tell .

So kids, when you’re doing big jumps… Wear your helmet! (Or somebody else’s helmet). Oh, and keep the front of the bike up!

** UPDATE *

Spent most of Monday afternoon till nearly 11pm at night at the hospital getting my finger fixed.  It now has a wire sticking out of it, a few stitches and a glued on fingernail.

Wedding Videos!

Well, it’s been a while. Sorry about that. We have been busy. Amy has just finished her 5th week of teaching practice with a couple more to go and I have been devoting many evenings to attempting to edit our wedding video with some help from Amy as well. Since we finished that about a week ago, I have been trying to export the results to various different formats. The DVD ISOs are done and we got the blank DVDs today so we will be burning a number of copies and sending them out to Family and Friends who couldn’t be there. If you really want a DVD set and you don’t think you’ll be getting one anyway, let me know and I’ll see what I can do. If you just can’t wait though, or really want to see it, you can download them right here! All the clips are at 320×240 resolution encoded in either wmv or xvid. Right click on the links and save to download.

  • Preparations: Footage from the morning before the wedding. 26:15
    AVI 96.1MB, WMV 63.3MB
  • Ceremony: The main event 48:44
    AVI 179MB, WMV 117MB
  • After: After the ceremony - cake cutting, group photos, people milling around 11:05
    AVI 38.1MB, WMV 20.7MB
  • Photos: Probably boring video of us getting our photos taken 5:33
    AVI 18.6MB, WMV 13.4MB
  • Reception: Lots of speeches followed by us dancing and later leaving 1:07:24
    AVI 247MB, WMV 162MB

i thought i’d share…

luuk felt this was ‘quoteworthy’… not perhaps as much as this (today’s comic) : http://www.questionablecontent.net/, but nonetheless… just a little part of my day that might brighten yours.

i lost my highlighter lid mysteriously in social studies today… and by the time i’d finished language at 2pm it was half-dry. so i chucked it out.

just found the lid - down my top - quite a way down, on the inside of my top!

between bastings

I should be writing this between assignments… however, procrastination wins again and the meatloaf needs basting. i will now do the first layer (made the sauce while i looked up my password, and bugged luuk at work… it has been a long time since i wrote).

basting #1 is complete. no drips on stove of strange coffee-tomatosauce-brownsugar-water-butter-soysauce sauce…

ooh, coffee. no. am being strong and courageous today. no coffee! all hail the tea. i am drinking some fancy balled up, whole leaf green tea from china that my mum was given by a friend, who was teaching her chinese. now that we know how to brew it, it’s fabulous!

Luuk and I went to a tea tasting evening with his work social club last friday night. It was hosted at YaYa Teahouse just off Poplar Street, between Tuam and Lichfield. We discovered this great little hidden village of cafes and clubs (including a russian vodka bar) in these great old alleyways. The teahouse was like a hideaway oasis of tranquility. No clocks, but several options as to how you will sit and 50 different types of pure tea. and apparently a fabulous hot chocolate and chai options as well. but no coffee. plenty of places where you can get that.

so this week i’m a tea buff. it’s been cold and beautifully autumnal for a while now. it’s so beautiful i have the door open. but my toes are starting to ache so perhaps i’ll bring the washing in, close the door and do another basting.

basting #2 complete and successful = no spills. yay! doesn’t often happen. possibly should consider returning to homework as i’ve been home for an hour now and have only done one email about a group assignment and… other things ;)

signing off.

State of the Union

Well, sorry for the long posting hiatus. We’ve now been married for two months and are settling into married life together. We’ve almost got a DVD of the official wedding photos back and I still have some that Pac sent me that I want to post. There’s still lots to keep us busy.

Amy has just started back at Teacher’s College and I have been doing Spanish night classes at CPIT on Mondays and Wednesdays. ¿Como Estan?

Last weekend we had Louise and her boyfriend James staying for the weekend, which was fun.  Went to the arts centre and out for dinner amongst other things.

I’ve also been trying to finish off the editing for Adam and Michelle’s wedding video and bits and pieces on the lifenet website.

Bit of a bitsy update due to the lateness of the hour. I did notice that most of the people commenting haven’t updated their own blogs… Hi from sleepy Amy too.

Oh, almost forgot, we had our first game of soccer a couple of weeks ago and twas a glorious victory 4-2. Actually, technically it was our second game as we defaulted the first one due to not knowing it was on. Next game is on Saturday morning.

Intervention Required?

Amy has discovered the Myst series. I’ll let the photos speak for themselves…
